Held on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, the Challenge of the Centuries is a 30 year old annual event held on the weekend before Memorial Day. Rides of 35, 100K and 100 miles are held on Saturday with riders leaving at 8 am. This year the ride will be leaving from the new Ride Headquarters at Hartwell First United Methodiist Church located at 200 Webb St.. Sponsored by the Hartwell Kiwanis Club the ride has annually 350 to 400 riders and each year has numerous riders who are repeat riders.
On Saturday the ride heads east with all three rides crossing the massive Hartwell Lake dam. Bikes are only permitted to cross the dam, about 2 miles, this one time each year. Each ride goes into South Carolina on gentle terrain of the Piedmont of North East Georgia.
